Prime Minister Orders Strict Screening for Monkeypox at Airports, Ports, and Borders.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a health emergency concerning monkeypox. So far, eleven cases have been reported in Pakistan. The first case was reported in Peshawar. Monkeypox cases have been reported in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 4 cases each, while Balochistan and Sindh have reported one case each.

Following the reporting of monkeypox cases in Pakistan, an advisory has been issued in Karachi to address the potential risks. Both private and government hospitals, along with the Sindh Health Department, have issued infection control alerts and advisories to prevent monkeypox, emphasizing the necessity of adopting precautionary measures.

Experts state that monkeypox is a viral infection that can be transmitted from animals to humans or from human to human within a distance of one meter. The initial symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, and swollen glands.

According to medical experts, there is currently no vaccine available for monkeypox in Pakistan, although the smallpox vaccine offers some level of protection against the disease.
