National Assembly

During the National Assembly session, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq stated that they will not remain silent regarding yesterday’s events in Parliament and that steps will be taken. He mentioned that videos from all entrances have been requested and that once he reviews them, he will assign responsibility. “If I need to file an FIR, I will do it myself,” he said.

He further commented, “I feel unfortunate because back in 2014, a political party attacked Parliament, and the second attack was the raid on Salahuddin Ayubi’s office. We won’t ignore what happened in Parliament yesterday. We will come together and plan a way forward.”

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that If you sow poison, the flowers that bloom will also be toxic. Such actions and discussions lead to reactions. This is a matter for the whole House, and no one will step back. We must respect the law and the Constitution. If mistakes were made, we’ll acknowledge them and make corrections. Let’s gather in the Speaker’s chamber to work towards a solution.

PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan also spoke and said What happened on May 9 was wrong, and what happened yesterday is like May 9 for democracy. Those who attacked Parliament should face Article 6. This was an attack on democracy, Pakistan and its Constitution. Masked men took our people away from Parliament.

PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar added that These accusations are serious. When Ali Muhammad Khan and his colleagues came to the Parliament gates, we called it an attack. Now, something has happened inside Parliament crossing all red lines. If no action is taken today, there will be no stopping what might happen tomorrow.

Mehmood Khan Achakzai said Democracy was restored here after much struggle. Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto returned to the country with her children. The PPP and PML-N agreed on the supremacy of democracy. We have all taken an oath to protect Pakistan’s Constitution. If our oath has any value, we must speak openly against both constitutional and unconstitutional actions. We will not allow any undemocratic steps to be taken.
