Power Outage at Asif Ali Zardari’s Birthday Celebration Sparks Protests

Zardari

During Asif Zardari’s birthday celebration, PPP leaders and workers chanted “Go Maryam Go” following a power outage at the event.

Lahore: During a birthday celebration for President Asif Ali Zardari in Lahore, local leaders and workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chanted slogans against Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, after a power outage disrupted the event.

According to details, the event was being held by local PPP leadership on the Azadi Flyover when the electricity was cut off. The interruption angered the leaders and workers, prompting them to chant “Go Maryam Go” and “Shame on You.”

Fiery Speech by PPP Leader Faisal Mir

In his speech, PPP leader Faisal Mir accused Maryam Nawaz of orchestrating the power outage. “If you hadn’t cut off the lights today, this wouldn’t be a topic. This is all happening at Maryam’s behest. If the PPP hadn’t supported the PML-N, they would be in jail today. Maryam Nawaz would be in jail instead of Bushra Bibi, and Shehbaz Sharif would be in jail instead of Imran Khan.”

Mir further stated that if the PPP hadn’t ousted Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion, the Sharif family would still be in the UK. He criticized the PML-N for the economic conditions over the past sixteen months, claiming the country was on the brink of bankruptcy until Bilawal Bhutto secured foreign aid to save it.

Call for Withdrawal of Support

Mir called on the PPP leadership to withdraw their support from both the central and provincial governments. He asserted that doing so would strengthen the PPP in Lahore and across Punjab.

He also recalled the hardships faced by PPP workers during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure as Chief Minister of Punjab, contrasting it with his experience running against Kulsoom Nawaz, whom he described as a woman of great character. However, he noted that her daughter, Maryam Nawaz, does not share those qualities.
