Islamabad: During Shehbaz Sharif‘s tenure as Prime Minister, electricity prices have surged to unprecedented levels, breaking all previous records. In just two years, the base tariff has increased by a historic Rs 22.53 per unit. When including permanent surcharges, the total hike reaches Rs 25.76 per unit, placing an additional burden of over Rs 2 trillion on consumers.

For the first time, monthly fixed charges of up to Rs 1,000 have been imposed on domestic users. This significant increase in electricity costs has sparked nationwide protests from various business chambers and trade organizations.
